This custom Siamese cat portrait was commissioned as a heartfelt gift for a father who shared many happy years with his beloved cat, Bifi. More than a simple cat painting, this artwork became a way to preserve a lifetime of memories and celebrate the bond between a family and their pet.
Creating this pet portrait was an unusual and rewarding challenge. There were no high-quality reference photos available and no single image showing the exact pose or expression that the family remembered. Instead, I worked from dozens of candid snapshots taken throughout Bifi's life. Piece by piece, I reconstructed his features, posture, and personality, creating a hand-painted pet portrait that feels authentic and unmistakably like him.
The background of the painting carries just as much meaning as the portrait itself. Bifi loved relaxing on the lawn in front of the family's home, so this special place became the setting for the artwork. Every detail of the brick house was carefully recreated, including the original brick pattern.
One of the most hidden details appears inside the open window, where even the bricks of the back room can be seen in the shadows.
To make the artwork feel even more immersive, the brick wall continues onto the sides of the canvas, creating a subtle three-dimensional effect.
As with all of my personalised pet portraits, this painting was created entirely by hand in oil on canvas. Whether it's a cat portrait, dog painting, or family and pet portrait, my goal is always the same: to turn precious memories into timeless artwork that can be enjoyed for generations.
