Pembroke Corgi Portrait in the Mountains

Some dogs seem to spend their whole lives smiling. Dixie is one of them.

A ten-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Dixie has the kind of grin that reaches from ear to ear, usually accompanied by a happily hanging tongue. Her owner affectionately calls her "the original Hawaiian sweet roll," and wanted her portrait to capture exactly that joyful, unmistakably Dixie expression.

But this commission was also about something more tender.

As Dixie gets older, her owner has found herself thinking about how precious their time together is. She wanted to preserve not only what Dixie looks like, but a piece of the life they have shared: the walks, the landscapes, and the feeling of seeing her happy in a place they both love.

For the background, we chose a mountain landscape inspired by one of the parks where they often walk together. Because the canvas was only 15×20 cm, the composition needed careful adjustment. Dixie is shown full-body, but I reworked the original reference so that the mountains would still remain visible and meaningful rather than disappearing behind her.

The result is a small painting that holds a surprisingly big memory: Dixie in her element, smiling in the landscape that belongs to their story.

In fact, this was only one half of the commission. Dixie's owner ordered two versions of the same portrait: this larger 15×20 cm painting for the home, and a second, smaller 10×10 cm version made specifically for the office desk. Same pose, same mountain landscape, scaled down to a size that fits neatly next to a keyboard. You can see the mini office version here: Dixie, 10×10 cm.

The portrait was delivered with a small display stand and now lives in her owner's home, where Dixie can keep smiling at her every day.

A small painting, a big piece of your story

A pet portrait does not have to be only about resemblance. It can preserve a place, a routine, an expression, or an entire chapter of your life together.

If there is a landscape, walk, holiday or ordinary little moment that feels inseparable from your pet, I can build it into the painting and create a portrait that tells more of their story - a keepsake for now, and a treasured memory for later.
