Memorial Dog Portrait for a Father

Some Christmas gifts are meant to be enjoyed for a season. Others preserve something a family never wants to lose.

This large 60×40 cm custom dog portrait was commissioned by a daughter as a Christmas gift for her father. She wanted something meaningful enough to become a permanent part of his office: a painting of his two beloved dogs, Makar and Milton, together in one of the family's favourite places.

The portrait features a Labrador Retriever (Milton) and a full-size red Poodle (Makar), sitting together on a rock beside the water. The landscape was not chosen simply because it was beautiful. It was a place where her father loved spending time with his family and his dogs, making the background part of the memory itself.

Sadly, Milton had already passed away.

That transformed the commission from a traditional pet portrait into a memorial painting: a way to bring both dogs together again in a place associated with happy family memories.

Because the painting was intended for her father's office, we chose a larger 60×40 cm format. It gives the landscape enough space to breathe while keeping both dogs clearly recognisable, creating a substantial piece that works as wall art rather than a small keepsake.

The finished painting was sent to the United States by express delivery and arrived in time for Christmas.

A gift that preserves more than a likeness

A custom pet portrait can be much more than a picture of a dog.

For a memorial gift, I can recreate the places, relationships and moments connected to them, even when the perfect reference photograph does not exist as a single image.

Whether you are looking for a meaningful gift for your father, a Christmas present for someone who seems to have everything, or a way to remember a beloved dog who has passed away, the painting can be built around the story you want to preserve.
