Boxer Dog Portrait with an Abstract Background
Greta does not need much scenery to command attention.
For this 15×20 cm custom dog portrait, we chose a close head-and-chest composition rather than showing her full body. On a small canvas, bringing the subject closer allows considerably more room for the details that make an individual dog recognisable: the eyes, muzzle, expression, fur and small personal accessories.
The portrait was commissioned as a gift for Greta's owner, so it was important to preserve not only her likeness but also familiar details, including her collar in the correct colour.
Instead of placing Greta in a landscape or interior, I created a simple abstract background. Nothing competes with her face. The cool blue tones were chosen deliberately to contrast with the warm, reddish shades in Greta's coat, helping her silhouette and fur stand out against the canvas.
She looks directly at the viewer with a calm, almost majestic expression.
The result is a small-format portrait with the visual presence of something much larger: personal, detailed and entirely centred on Greta.
