It's a custom French Bulldog oil painting made entirely from love and observation rather than a single reference photo: Chubb's expression, that melting, devoted stare he saves for his humans, was pulled from a video, while his elegant seated pose was reconstructed from a handful of separate photos. The finished portrait captures a moment that never technically existed as one picture, only as the true character of the dog.
Dressed in a crisp black bow tie and collar, Chubb holds a strikingly lifelike red rose between his teeth. An early concept used a toy rose as a prop; it was swapped for a photorealistic bloom once it became clear that a toy read as cute, while a real-looking rose read as romantic — the difference between a novelty portrait and one that actually says "Valentine."
